why i've chosen this organization:

it is my top priority to give back to my wonderful community. i love celebrating and capturing women's joyous moments as they journey through motherhood. the glaring reality is that the journey is not the same for all mothers. not all women are afforded the same opportunity to a happy & healthy pregnancy or birth, and that absolutely breaks my heart. this partnership represents my commitment to show up & make an impact on the racial disparities that exist within the construct of motherhood.

i hope you'll join me in this effort - thank you for all of the love & support.

sincerely, renee

black mamas atx | mission:

ensure that black women survive and thrive before, during & after childbirth.

"we envision a world without maternal health disparities. therefore, our goal is to reduce and ultimately eliminate the alarming maternal mortality and morbidity rates among black mothers in central texas. with effective collaborative partnerships and through culturally-congruent programs, training, outreach, and research, bmatx is leading the charge in central texas to improve black maternal health and wellbeing over the childbearing spectrum."

the facts:

black women are disproportionately affected when it comes to safe pregnancy & births.

black women are 243% more likely to die from pregnancy, while only accounting for 12% of all births.

black babies are 3x more likely to die when delivered by white doctors.

the impact:

since 2018, black mamas atx has served over 130 black mothers, making central texas #1 in the state for preventable maternal morbidity in black women.

on average, women receiving services from black mamas atx stay with the organization for 18 months.

services provided:

  • 2,380 hours of doula care
  • prenatal care to 54 women
